Our Legacy in Rugby: Passion, Integrity, and Community

Since our inception in 1960, the Edmonton Rugby Union (ERU) has proudly connected people through the sport of rugby. Over the years, we’ve built a vibrant community across Edmonton and Northern Alberta, with fifteen clubs and over 50 teams – and our passion for the game encourages teamwork, discipline, and respect.

We believe that rugby is for everyone. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment where all individuals, no matter their skill level or background, can learn and enjoy the game. From youth initiatives to adult leagues, we aim to foster a love for rugby that can be passed down through generations.

Our core values—Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline, and Respect—shape our community and guide everything we do. We work hard to live these principles in organizing leagues, scheduling matches, and supporting fundraising and community outreach.

Whether you’re an experienced player, a newcomer ready to learn, or someone interested in helping from the sidelines, there’s a place for you at the ERU.

The Edmonton Rugby Union is located within the territories of Treaty 6, 7, and 8 as well as the Métis settlements and six regions of the Métis nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. We acknowledge and are grateful that rugby throughout all of the Edmonton Rugby Union happens on the traditional meeting grounds, gathering places, and travelling routes of the Nehiyawak, Dene, Nakota Sioux, Saulteaux, Niitsitapi, Tsuu Tina, and Iyarhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda). We honour and thank all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit who have lived, played, gathered, and whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries past and will forever more.
