Updated Rugby Alberta Policies and ERU Incident Reporting

Please review the following policy changes and new ERU incident reporting form. Links provided below.

Discipline Policy – Rugby Alberta

This overhaul marks the first major update to the policy since 2008 and introduces a clearer, more consistent, and impartial disciplinary process across all levels of play in Alberta.  Key changes:

  • Establishment of a new Discipline Committee: This independent committee will oversee all rugby competitions in the province. With broader representation and a structured appointment process, the committee is designed to enhance fairness, eliminate potential conflicts of interest, and increase the efficiency of reviews.
  • Expanded policy framework: The updated policy outlines detailed procedures for discipline matters including send-offs, citings, misconduct (both on and off-field), sanctions, appeals, and how suspensions are administered.
  • Transparency & consistency: Findings from discipline hearings will be publicly posted on the Rugby Alberta website, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and upholding discipline standards.

Incident Reporting – Edmonton Rugby

In an effort to support coaches, players, referees, spectators, and all others involved with Rugby in Edmonton, the ERU Incident Reporting form is an anonymous reporting tool.

Please click here to share any and all incidents of misconduct, bullying, mistreatment, unsafe behaviour, referee abuse, and all other incidents that occur during training and games for the ERU to review.

Age Dispensation – Rugby Alberta

Rugby Alberta continues to review the Age Dispensation Guidelines. Key Changes:

  • Updated language to state that an Athletic Therapist must be certified through the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association and hold an active CAT (C) designation
  • Updated policy to state that once an age dispensation request is approved, the player can only participate in that approved age grade for the registration year

The Edmonton Rugby Union is located within the territories of Treaty 6, 7, and 8 as well as the Métis settlements and six regions of the Métis nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. We acknowledge and are grateful that rugby throughout all of the Edmonton Rugby Union happens on the traditional meeting grounds, gathering places, and travelling routes of the Nehiyawak, Dene, Nakota Sioux, Saulteaux, Niitsitapi, Tsuu Tina, and Iyarhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda). We honour and thank all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit who have lived, played, gathered, and whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries past and will forever more.
