Discipline/Sanctions & Red Card Reporting

Discipline / Sanctions resulting from a red card or other removal from game or playing enclosure (players and non-players) are to be reported within 24 hours of the incident.

SEND OFF REPORT FOR MATCH OFFICIALS

Match Officials are to complete a send-off report for any red card issued in a game.

Reports for games which occurred in ERU jurisdiction are to be sent to edmontonrugbyreferees@gmail.com CC eruprograms@gmail.com

Discipline reports for AWP and AC divisions are to be emailed to info@rugbyalberta.com CC edmontonrugbyreferees@gmail.com & eruprograms@gmail.com. These will be forwarded to the Rugby Alberta Rules and Regulations Committee (RRC) to review.

How Do I Become a Referee?

Becoming a rugby referee within the Edmonton Rugby Union offers a unique opportunity to both experience the sport of rugby and serve as a key member of our community.

Few other sports rely on the referee in the way that rugby does. Play is continuous, so the referee has a continual stream of judgments to make. Are you up for the challenge?

Whether you’re a former player who wants to continue to be active in the sport or you’re a student looking for an fun and rewarding part-time job, the journey to becoming an active referee begins with your completion of Rugby Ready and then enrolling in the Level 1 Referee Course.

Once you’re trained, it’s time to register with ERU Rugby/Referee Society and get your first assignment.

ERU Referee Abuse Policy

Referee abuse or harassment is STRICTLY prohibited within the Edmonton Rugby Union.

Respect and professionalism is expected from all players coaches and spectators and abuse from any of these will not be tolerated. Please click the link above to read the Referee Abuse Policy from the Edmonton Rugby Union (ERU) and the Edmonton Rugby Union Referees Society (ERURS).

This policy is applies to all coaches and spectators. Player abuse of referees will continue to be dealt with according to the World Rugby and ERU Rules and Regulations.

The Edmonton Rugby Union and it’s associated Club Presidents fully support this policy. Be reminded that it is the CLUB’S responsibility to control spectators as per item 2.3 in the Rugby Alberta Rules & Regulations

If you see any instances of referee abuse (or volunteer/staff abuse), let your Club board members and the Edmonton Rugby Union know so that it can be dealt with.
