Whether you’re brand new to rugby and want to learn more about coaching rugby, a player seeking a new avenue, or a dedicated enthusiast aspiring to lead a team, there’s a World Rugby/NCCP course for you. Learn about game management, player welfare, effective communication, player development, skill acquisition & development, and using a player-centred games based approach to coaching in the Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

World Rugby Level 1  – NCCP Community Initiation

  • Edmonton – Riverbend Junior High School, 8:30am start 
    • Saturday February 1st

  • Calgary – Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School, 8:30am start
    • Sunday, March 2nd

Course Information – 1 day (8hrs)

This course is designed to enable coaches to acquire basic skills so that players new to the game learn to play safely, with enjoyable competition. It is an 8 hour Trained Only course with no post-course evaluation.

World Rugby Level 2 – NCCP Competition Introduction

Course Information – 2 days (18hrs)

This course is designed to provide coaches with the skills needed to coach teenage and adult players in a club or school environment. It is extremely important that coaches have an understanding of rugby before taking this course, which is delivered over 18 hours. Note that there is no requirement to complete the Level 1 course prior to registering for the level 2

Step 1. Modules & Account Creation

  1. Register as a coach with training.rugbycanada.ca
  2. Select NCCP Community Initiation
  3. Create a World Rugby Passport at passport.world.rugby/login/?action=register
  4. Complete the above WR C modules at passport.worldrugby.org
  5. Save your WR certificates to your computer as a PDFs
  6. Return to your profile at training.rugbycanada.ca and upload both certificates to your profile
  7. Register for the clinic you wish to take

Step 2. Make Ethical Decisions

To complete this required course visit Make Ethical Decisions

Step 3. Attend Course

Attend and Complete the NCCP Community Initiation course that you registered for! At this point the coach has gained trained status.

Level 2 Certification Pathway

Step 1. Modules & Account Creation

Step 3. Attend Course

Attend and Complete the NCCP Competition Introduction course that you registered for! At this point the coach has gained trained status.

Step 4. Submit Coaching Diary

Satisfactorily complete a diary for a team that is being coached in the current or next Rugby season. The diary should cover a minimum cycle of four practices and two games within that cycle. The diary should provide evidence of a coach’s ability to apply the ‘Plan, Do, Review’ model. The coach’s progress during the course will be tracked on the NCCP Competition Introduction transcript. This serves as the ongoing assessment tool.

Step 5. On-Side Evaluation

A full practice plan including the date, time and venue should be submitted to the local Rugby Union no later than 21 days prior to the requested date of the evaluation itself. Once the coach has completed the on-site evaluation and meets competency at all levels of the transcripts, the coach can be signed off as certified.
