Edmonton Gold is seeking coaches for the

2019 Spring/Summer age grade season

Head and assistant coaches for:

  • U-16 boys and girls
  • U-18 boys and girls

Job requirements

  • Level  1 NCCP coaching certification or WR Level 1
  • Rugby ready and concussion management (World Rugby Passport Certificates)
  • Experience coaching age grade 15-a-side rugby
  • Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Willingness to implement Rugby Alberta Structure and principles of play

This is to ensure preparation and continuity for players in the Pathway

Job responsibilities

  • Work with ERU to select teams
  • Abide by ERU code of conduct
  • Scout and recruit players during high school season
  • Run practices leading up to Challenge Cup and regional conference championship (ARC)
  • Implementation of Rugby Alberta structure and principles of play
  • Provide appropriate guidance and feedback before during and after games relative to team performance
  • Provide feedback to athletes who do not make Gold squads
  • Give feedback to Alberta selectors to aide with selection if asked

Season Schedule (tentative to be confirmed):

Player Tryouts: May 26, June 2

Squad Training: June 9, 16 additional trainings to be determined

Challenge Cup in Calgary – tentatively scheduled for June 15

Exhibition Game vs Red Deer- U16’s June 18 (in Edmonton), U18’s June 17 (in Red Deer)

Alberta Regional Championship (ARC) in Red Deer – U16 June 28/29     U18 June 29/30

Please specify what age group and gender you are applying for along with preferred role (Head or Assistant Coach) in your cover letter.  Applicants who are selected for interviews will need to be available April 22 or 23. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, April 26. A mandatory coaches meeting will be scheduled to discuss the season, date and location TBD.  


Announcement – 2019 Edmonton Gold Senior Men

On behalf of Martin van der Heever and Warren de Bruin; the 2019 Gold Senior Men's coaches, we are pleased to announce a squad of 28 players.  From these 28 players a game day team of 23 will be chosen for each of the Gold games scheduled for:

  1. May 10 – Gold vs. Manitoba @ Calgary (travel by charter bus; depart at 1:00 PM; 5:30 kickoff)
  2. May 12 – Gold vs. Saskatchewan @ Ellerslie Rugby Park (11:00 AM kickoff)
  3. May 17 – Gold vs. Mavericks @ Ellerslie Rugby Park (7:00 PM kickoff)

Congratulations to those selected to the Gold Squad for this year. For those who were not selected, we thank you for attending training and expressing interest in playing for the Gold.

  • Wednesday April 10 at Ellerslie – 6:30-8:30
  • Wednesday April 17 at Ellerslie – 6:30-8:30
  • Wednesday April 24 at Ellerslie -6:30-8:30
  • Wednesday May 1 at Ellerslie – 6:30-8:30
  • Wednesday May 8 at Clansmen RFC grounds – 6:30-8:30
  • Wednesday May 15 at Clansmen RFC grounds – 6:30-8:30

Martin and Warren have stressed the importance for all squad members to attend these sessions. Selection to the game day squads of 23 players will depend in part on attending and participating in training.
